Leo Leaves Mel Gibson Flick

Radar Online has reported that Leonardo DiCaprio has backed out of Mel Gibson's new project.  The actor was slated to star in Gibson's latest passion project, a Viking movie.   Both Gibson and DiCaprio have long wanted to make a Viking flick so it seemed to be a solid match; the Academy Award winning director pairing with an actor on a serious role and someone who picks projects carefully and with a better track record then just about any other actor, joining the likes of Johnny Depp and George Clooney as actors that are seriously interested in making good films and less interested in simply being a movie star, a trait, sadly, that is in short supply in Hollywood.  A source told Radar "Leo has earned the right to pick and choose who he works with and Mel Gibson is not one of them." There was no reason cited for why he left the project, but I suspect it has to to do with the fact that Gibson is a racist piece of shit and a frothing at the mouth psychopath.   But that just may be me reading into the situation. I think we're seeing Leo's ability to pick quality projects unfolding right in front of us.  I'm not surprised Mel Gibson has slipped down his "people I want to work with list."  Remember DiCaprio did a James Cameron film, so he knows what it's like to work with a dangerous and possibly insane director.   DiCaprio will instead team up with director Clint Eastwood to star in a J. Edgar Hoover biopic instead.  There's a kind of poetic justice to that, with Mel Gibson's recent rantings seeming like a real-life version of Walt Kowalksi, the angry racist character Eastwood played in his 2008 film Gran Torino.
