One of My Very Favorite Things

This is one of my very favorite pieces of entertainment ever produced. It's from a 1976 episode of 'The Muppet Show' - a program I adored as a child, and, now that I'm a father myself, I realize what a precious gift it is for parents to have a show their children enjoy that doesn't make them want to kill themselves. 'The Muppet Show' had a lot of brilliant moments, but this one, in its utter simplicity, is the one that years and years later not only sticks with me, but returns to me, randomly and without notice. What makes this piece particularly durable for me is the fact that each time I watch it - and I've seen it dozens of times at least - it never fails to not only amuse me, but amuse and delight me each time just as much and as wonderfully as it did the very first time I saw it, when I was a young child. I can't put a finger on what it is about this strikes such a chord with me. I'm not sure why this paricular clip; this silly marriage of music and comedy, works so well for me, but it definitely does. Maybe there's something brilliant, something clever, something magical going on in this little sketch. Or maybe I'm just a simpleton.
